Rome has six thousand places to eat and one of the largest visitor flows in Europe. On Rednote – the app Chinese travellers use to get and share their tips – the city shrinks to four names.
We read the 202 top-ranked posts about eating in Rome and counted how many of the city’s 6,237 food businesses appear in them at all. Thirty-four do, as of 26 September 2026. These four are named more than once.
1. Osteria da Fortunata
Seven posts, the leader – and it owes that to an image, not a dish. The most-read post translates as: “The handmade pasta even Italians queue for.” The pasta is made by hand in the window, and that is exactly what can be photographed.
On a platform that shows pictures first, a motif in the window is the real competitive advantage.
The numbers stay small even so: 181 likes across all seven posts, best rank 14.
Via del Pellegrino 11
2. Mariuccia
Four mentions, but 4,195 likes – twenty times da Fortunata’s, with almost half as many posts. The reason is one post from April 2025, and it isn’t about Rome at all: “Italy 🇮🇹 – my food round-up.” 2,400 likes.
Land on a country list and you inherit its reach. Being named often doesn’t automatically make you the one being talked about.
3. Quel che c’è
Two mentions, 468 likes – and the most decisive title on the list: “In Rome! If you only eat at one pasta place!” Rednote rewards that form: don’t weigh things up, make a recommendation, as if talking to a friend.
Via Torino 129
4. Al Forno della Soffitta
Two mentions, twelve likes, rank 28 – the smallest line in the survey. The post is from September 2026, so it’s fresh: “Italy 🇮🇹 – three-city food guide.” Whether anything comes of it remains to be seen.

What stands out
Pasta carries everything. Three of the four stand for handmade noodles. Offer something else in Rome and you have no category on Rednote so far – and therefore no competition either.
Visibility and reach come apart. The most frequently named business has the fewest likes; the one with the greatest reach is rarely named. Look at only one of the two numbers and you see half the picture.
34 out of 6,237, and only four of them more than once. Rome is thinner on Rednote than Madrid or Barcelona. For a city that size, that mainly means the places are still free.
How we measured this
On 26 September 2026 we analysed five searches Chinese-speaking travellers make before going out to eat: Rome guide, Rome must-eats, Rome food, Rome restaurant recommendations, Roman pasta. For each search, the fifty top-ranked posts, 202 distinct ones in total. In those we searched for the names of all 6,237 food businesses OpenStreetMap lists for Rome.
What we counted is how often a business is named – that is search visibility, not popularity. A restaurant can be full of Chinese guests and missing here because nobody writes about it. A mention can also be a warning. Rednote’s ranking is personalised: these numbers are one day’s measurement. Landmarks like Trastevere or Navona and generic words like “trattoria” were excluded.
The same survey for Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Vienna and Munich.
