7 Barcelona restaurants Chinese travellers recommend to each other

27 of Barcelona's 6,434 food businesses appear in the Rednote posts Chinese travellers read before going out to eat. We analysed 195 of those posts, as of 26 September 2026.

Before Chinese guests arrive in Barcelona, dinner is usually already settled. Not from a guidebook, but from Rednote – the app where 300 million people get their tips. We read the 195 top-ranked posts about eating in Barcelona and counted how many of the city’s 6,434 food businesses appear in them at all.

Twenty-seven do, as of 26 September 2026. These seven are named more than once.

The order below is not a ranking – how often each place appears is stated with it.

1. La Flauta

Six mentions, rank 3, and 4,589 likes – the highest reach in the city. But 2,659 of those come from a single post in April 2025, and it has the best title in the whole survey: ”🇪🇸 Barcelona – the tapas that make British exchange students cry while they eat!!”

Take that one post out and La Flauta sits mid-table. That’s how Rednote works: what makes a restaurant visible isn’t many mediocre mentions, it’s one that lands.

Carrer d’Aribau 23

2. Vinitus

Four mentions, also rank 3 – and the same chain that tops our Madrid list. For Chinese travellers, Vinitus is apparently the safe bet in Spain. A pattern you only see when you put two cities side by side.

Carrer del Consell de Cent 333

3. el Racó

Two mentions, 2,243 likes – more than Botafumeiro and Carnal combined, both named more often. The post carrying it says why it exists right in the title: “Have to write a separate post for Barcelona’s top paella.” And el Racó sits at rank 36 in the search results, right at the bottom.

On Rednote, reach and ranking are two different things. Here you see the difference in its purest form.

Rambla de Catalunya 25

4. Botafumeiro

Four mentions, Galician seafood since 1975, and that’s exactly the pitch: “Barcelona – the best hundred-year-old seafood restaurant.” The Chinese-language readership isn’t strict about the maths; the lobster in the photo does the work.

Carrer Gran de Gràcia 81

5. Bar Cañete

Two mentions, 1,419 likes – and the most unusual lever on the list: ”🇪🇸 Barcelona | No wonder it’s Jennie’s pick.” That’s Jennie from Blackpink. A restaurant named once in a celebrity context pulls posts along for months on Rednote.

Carrer de la Unió 17

6. Sagradas Tapas

Two mentions, rank 6, 1,513 likes. The post addresses an audience no restaurant guide has: ”🇪🇸 Barcelona tapas – cheap paella, eating alone on a budget.” Students, travelling solo, watching their money. On Rednote that’s one of the largest groups there is.

Avinguda de Gaudí 48

7. Carnal

Three mentions, rank 7, and a title that brings its own ranking along: ”🇪🇸 Ticked off: one of the world’s 100 best steakhouses.” A list position fits in a photo caption. Taste doesn’t.

What stands out

One post can carry a placement. Twice on this list – La Flauta and el Racó – almost all the reach hangs on a single mention. That’s the good news and the bad news at once: you don’t need a campaign, but you do need the right post.

Paella and tapas are taken, the rest isn’t. Botafumeiro, el Racó and Sagradas carry the seafood; La Flauta and Vinitus the tapas. Everything else Barcelona can do barely appears on Rednote at all.

27 out of 6,434. For a city that can hardly find a free table in summer, that’s a remarkably short list.

How we measured this

On 26 September 2026 we analysed five searches Chinese-speaking travellers make before going out to eat: Barcelona guide, Barcelona must-eats, Barcelona food, Barcelona restaurant recommendations, Barcelona paella. For each search, the fifty top-ranked posts, 195 distinct ones in total. In those we searched for the names of all 6,434 food businesses OpenStreetMap lists for Barcelona.

What we counted is how often a business is named – that is search visibility, not popularity. A restaurant can be full of Chinese guests and missing here because nobody writes about it. A mention can also be a warning. Rednote’s ranking is personalised: these numbers are one day’s measurement. Day-trip towns like Tossa and generic words like “Xurreria” were excluded – they would match posts about the place, not about a restaurant.

The same survey for Madrid, Lisbon, Rome, Vienna and Munich.
