The problem with borrowed IDs
Because verification on Xiaohongshu (小红书) has hurdles for foreigners, many reach for the shortcut: the channel is set up on a borrowed Chinese ID or via a front person. That works – until it doesn’t.
Because that account then doesn’t legally belong to you. If the person disappears, falls out with you, or simply changes their mind, your channel is gone – along with reach, followers and earnings. It’s the most common and most expensive mistake in this market.
The official way: verification against your passport
There’s a right way to do it. Your channel can be registered through Xiaohongshu’s official verification against your passport. No borrowed ID, no detour through third parties. That means:
- The account runs in your real name.
- It can’t be taken away from you.
- You build reach on a foundation that’s yours.
Verification asks for things you can’t know from the outside, and that’s exactly where many solo attempts fail. With the right process, though, it’s no magic.
